Default US Supreme Court and the Constitution

From pollingreport.com

"Which comes closer to your point of view? (A) In making decisions, the Supreme Court should only consider the original intentions of the authors of the constitution. (B) In making decisions, the Supreme Court should consider changing times and current realities in applying the principles of the Constitution."
poll results from 8/7 to 8/13/08

Original Intentions 40%

Current Realities 52%

Unsure 8%
The Constitution doesn't have a date of expiration or any clause or amendment that I know of that allows it to be changes to suit the "current realities"

Default changes to suit the "current realities"

That's what the amendment process is for.

Original Intentions.

IRATENESS:
The "seperation of church & state" of which we hear so much can be found NOWHERE in the Constitution.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

That doesn't help. The amendment has been bastardized beyond recognition, and I'm STILL IRATE!!!!!

And in regard to your bolded/italicized/underlined text.....
Strange how the adherents of the first part rarely acknowledge the existence of the second.

I believe that freedom OF religion should include freedom FROM religion.

There are a number of theocracies around the world where those who wish their government to be based on a specific religion may do so.

Free speech and the ability to express an opinion without having to be paranoid about retribution is very important to a number of posters on this forum.

Angry Go Barack!

The Supreme Court is an excellent reason to vote for Barack Obama. John McCain will put nominees in who will be conservative and will push their views on you and me. No thanks! I've had 8 years of Bush and I'm ready for change.

Do you really know what Barack Obama's views are? Or do you go by what he says his views are? If you really knew I don't think you would want him putting anyone in the Supreme Court. True conservatives do not want to rewrite the constitution, liberals do want to.
